Given:

An air column of area 15cm×15cm.

To Find:

Mass of the object whose weight will be equal to the weight of the air column.

Solution:

We know that the pressure exerted by the atmosphere on earth is equal to 1 atm =1.013*10^5 Pa

Area of the column, A=15*15=225cm^2=0.0225m^2

Weight of the air column = Force exerted by the air column

                                     W=PA

                                ⇒ W=1.013*10^5*2.25*10^{-2

                                ⇒ W=2.28*10^3N

Mass of the object with this weight, m=W/g

                                                                =22.8kg

Hence, the mass of the object whose weight will be equal to the weight of the air column is equal to 22.8kg.
