Answer:
Weight of an object depends upon the gravity of the Earth whereas mass is fundamental physical quantity which does not vary.
Weight of an object is given by
The sign + denotes movement of mass along the surface of the Earth and - symbol denotes away from the Earth.
Sometimes Weight =0 in the case of a free fall.
When the body falls from the atmosphere to surface of the Earth it doesn't experiences any extra force other than gravity which makes gravity negligible. For example
- Weight =mg when you walk on the road.
- Weight=(-mg) when you are lifted by an elevator.
- Weight=0 when you dive in a pool.
