Answer:

Weight on Earth ,We=98 N=mg

m=geWe=9.898=10 kg

m=10 kg,g=1.6 m/s2

So, weight on Moon, Wm=mgm

Wm=10×1.6=16 N

Given,

  • A half-meter scale balanced at 5cm mark.
  • Weight of 10 gf hanging from the one end.

To find,

Weight of the scale.

Solution,

The weight handing will be giving rise to torque and the 45cm of scale resting on the platform will be countering this torque.

Let us suppose that the hanging part is on the right side.

Let us first calculate the torque for the left side.

Assuming that the scale has even linear density, ρ kg/cm

The weight of the left side will be = 45*ρ

Calculating the torque due to the normal reaction.

Torque = r*ζ

            = 0.225*45*ρg N

The weight of the right side will be = 5*ρ

Torque = r*ζ

            = 0.025*45*ρg N

Torque due to the hanging weight = r*ζ

                                                          = -0.05*0.098N

Sum total torque will be zero.

Mathematically,

0.225*45*ρg N - 0.025*45*ρg N - 0.05*0.098N = 0

                                     101.25ρ - 11.25ρ - 0.0049 = 0

                                                                 90ρ = 0.005

                                                                     ρ = 0.000055 kg/cm

Weight of scale = ρ*50cm*1000gm = 2.75gm

Therefore, the weight of the half-meter scale is 2.75gm.
