Let the weight of the Vinod be x kg.

∴ Weight of the Raju = 2x - 5 kg.

Now, Sum of there weights = 40 kg.

∴ x + 2x - 5 = 40

⇒ 3x = 45

∴ x = 15 kg.

∴ Weight of the Vinod is 15 kg.

Also, weight of the Raju is 40 - 15 = 25 kg.

Hope it helps.

Acc to the question, the weight of Raju is 5 kg less than double the weight of Vinod.

Let the weight of Vinod be W kg.

Then weight of Raju will be (2W - 5)kg.

Second condition given is if the total weight of both is 40 kg, then we have to prepare the equation to find out the weight of each one.

i.e. ( weight of Raju) + ( weight of Vinod) = 40kg.

or, (2W - 5)kg + W kg = 40kg

or, 2Wkg - 5kg + W kg = 40kg

or, 2W + W - 5kg = 40kg

or, 3W = 40kg + 5kg = 45kg.

or, W = (45 ÷ 3)kg = 15kg.

Therefore, weight of Raju = (2W - 5)kg. = (2 × 15 - 5)kg. = 25kg.

and Weight of Vinod is 15kg.
