The weight of the object in a lift will appear to be less while the lift:-
(a) descends with uniform velocity
(b) moves up with a uniform velocity C
(c) goes up with acceleration
(d) goes up with retardation

Answer:

Your answer is (d) because suppose if the lift is in rest or moving with constant or uniform velocity in either directions the weight of the body is mg.

When the body is accelerated upward the net g will be (g+a) and weight will be m(g+a) which will obviously be more.

But when the body is retarded or accelerated downwards the net g affective will be (g-a) and weight will be m(g-a) which will decrease or be less.
