Train wheels are made up of steel in order to reduce rolling friction. When driving a car, almost 25 percent of the car’s engine power is used to push the tires down. As they roll, tires deform resulting in more energy usage. The amount of energy used by the tires is proportional to the weight that is on them. Since car is light energy usage is acceptable but when this happens to train lot of energy is required resulting in more fuel usage. Therefore, to avoid wheel deformation and energy usage, steel is used in making rail wheel.
