The wickets taken by a bowler in 10 cricket matches are 2, 6, 4,5, 0, 2, 1, 3, 2, 3. The median of the data is 2.5

Given:

The wickets taken by a bowler in 10 cricket matches are 2, 6, 4,5, 0, 2, 1, 3, 2, 3.

To find:

The median of the given data.

Solution:

Now, arrange the number of wickets taken by a bowler in the ascending order then,

the order would be 0,1,2,2,2,3,3,4,5,6.

We know that, if the number of data is odd, then the median would be the middle data point in the list.

But now, the number of data is even, so the median would be average of the two middle values.

Hence, the median of the above data = average of (2 middle terms)

          the 2 middle terms are in the position of 5th and 6th place.

          and the numbers are : 2,3 respectively.

        average = (2 + 3) / 2

                      =  2.5

The median of the data is 2.5
