The width of a plot of land is 5/6 of its length. If the length had been 2 feet less and widhth 5 feet more, the plot would become a square. What are the dimensions of the plot?

Let's assume a the width of the land and b its length.

 a=\dfrac{5}{6}b\\<br /><br />b-2=a+5\ \Rightarrow\ b=a+7\\<br /><br />\Rightarrow\  b=\dfrac{5}{6}b+7 \\<br /><br />\Rightarrow\  \dfrac{b}{6}=7 \\<br /><br />\Rightarrow\  b=42\  and\ a=35\ (feet) \\<br /><br />
