Let the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle be c, the height be a and the base be b then Pythagoras theorem states that :

a² + b² = c²

In our case the diagonal is the hypotenuse and the width is the height. We want the base.

Substituting into the formulae we have :

5² + b² = 13²

b² = 13² - 5²

b² = 144

b = √144

b = 12 cm

The length is the base and it is equal to 12cm.

Perimeter = 2l + 2w

Perimeter = 2×12 + 2× 5 = 34 cm
