Question -

The width of a rectangle is two third of its length. If the perimeter is 180m, find the width and length of the rectangle.

Solution -

Let,

the length(l) of the rectangle be x

Then,

the width (b) of the rectangle will be 2/3 x

We know that,

Perimeter of rectangle =2(l+b)

By putting the values we will get -

180 = 2(x +  \frac{2}{3} x)

180 = 2x +  \frac{4}{3} x

180 =  \frac{6x + 4x}{3}

180 =  \frac{10x}{3}

10x =  180 \times 3

x =  \frac{180 \times 3}{10}

x = 54

Hence the length is 54 m

the \: breadth =  \frac{2}{3}  \times 54 = 34m
