Answer :-

  • Length of the rectangle = 12m
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 7m

Given :-

  • The width of a rectangular plot is 5m less than its length and it's area is 84m².

To Find :-

  • Length and breadth of the rectangle

Solution :-

Let

  • Length of the rectangle be x
  • Breadth of the rectangle = x - 5

Here

  • Area of the rectangle is 84m².

As we know that

  • Area of a rectangle is l × b

Where

  • l = length
  • b = breadth

According to question :-

⇒ x (x - 5) = 84

⇒ x² - 5x = 84

⇒ x² - 5x - 84

[ split the middle term ]

⇒ x² - 12x + 7x - 84 = 0

⇒ x (x - 12) + 7 (x - 12) = 0

⇒ (x + 7) (x - 12)

__________________________

x = 12 [ length can't be negative ]

Now

  • Length of the rectangle = x = 12m
  • Breadth of the rectangle = x - 5 = 12 - 5 = 7m
