Answer:

let the length be x

so width x-3

perimeter of rectangle =2(l+b)

26=2(2x-3)

26=4x-6

32=4x

x=8

width = x-3

8-3=5

Step-by-step explanation:

given,

  • length = a cm
  • width = 3 cm less than the length = a - 3
  • perimeter = 26 cm

FORMULA:

PERIMETER = 2 ( L + B)

26 = 2 ( a + (a - 3) )

26 = 2 ( 2a - 3 )

 \frac{26}{2}  = 2a - 3 \\ 13 = 2a - 3 \\ 2a = 13 + 3 \\ 2a = 16 \\ a =  \frac{16}{2}  \\ a = 8

  • length of rectangle = 8 cm
  • width of the rectangle = 8 - 3 = 5 cm
