The term democracy takes its origin from ancient Greece, in and around 6th century BC.

It is composed of two words, “demos” and “ kratein”, combining which, it translates to “the rule of the people”.

The form of government in ancient greece involved all adult, male and native residents of the city of Athens getting the chance to elect a leader by voting.
