The word environment is derived from the French word 'Environer' which means "neighbourhood".

The Environment is our basic support in life. It provides the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the land where we live. The place, species, elements and nature that surround any living organism is called the environment. It is a combination of natural and human-made resources. It comprises the interaction of physical, biological and cultural elements which are individually and collectively interlinked.

Natural Environment refers to biotic and abiotic conditions existing on the earth.

Biotic: The world of living organisms on earth is known as biotic.

Example:- Plants and animals

Abiotic: The world of non-living elements on earth is called abiotic.
