People choose professions according to their geographical conditions. Where there is sea people mostly belong to fishing and trade through sea. People living in fertile lands preffer cultivation and related industries whereas people near to mountains belongs to mining.

It's very likely that different parts of a state can have people involved in different kinds of work. The capital will have various offices for the functioning of the administration whereas the country side will have a large number of people growing crops. The coastal area will have people engaged in fishing, while in hilly terrain, there will be people involved in tourism and mountaineering occupations. On the other hand, Mines would be dug in the areas rich in mineral deposits. Similarly, in plains it can be seen that factories mushroom around the area where raw material is grown as cash crop. Many sugar mills are set up in Uttar Pradesh where sugarcane is grown in abundance. So, depending upon the land features, industries, crops grown in an area and availability of resources provide for scope of different involvements of people and their occupation.
