In today's hurried life, people barely have time to complete their daily chores, let alone find time for kindness. Yet, there are tiny ways in which one can spread some sunshine. Surprisingly, the two instances that I remember were inexpensive and did not take a lot of effort.
Each season has it's own troubles. On a humid summer day, I had gone walking to the market. I only had to pick up a few things, yet, I was too tired to walk back home and hired a rickshaw. On reaching home, I saw the rickshaw puller sweaty and exhausted. I quickly ran upstairs and got him a bottle of chilled water and a packet of glucose biscuits. There was a twinkle in his eyes.
Yet another incident was when a package was to be delivered at home. The clouds had conspired against the courier boy. Rain threatened to drench him and his big bag of packages. Since he did not have any place to wait for the rain to end, I invited him in. We had some hot tea. Now, each time he comes by, he greets me very warmly.
There are a million ways in which one can make a difference. It only requires tuning yourself to mindfulness.
