The world geological history is trapped in Antarctica because it’s the only place in the world, where human beings have not lived for twelve thousand years and therefore remains relatively ‘pristine’ in this respect; in the ice-cores half-million-year-old carbon records are trapped in its layers of ice.

The study of this region is useful because study and examine the Earth’s past, present and future. The ecological and environmental purity of Antarctica is so pure that a slight change in the world environment is visible here. For example the rise in CFC affected the ozone layer at Antarctica. Similarly, depleting phyto-plankton is not a good indication for the future.
