"The Proposal”- Anton Chekhov

Explanation:

The Proposal is originally a Russian play written by Anton Chekhov in 1888-89. A young man tries to propose to Natalia, but the pair end up arguing about different things. Chekhov mocks the institution of marriage through the frivolity of the arguments between the intended couple.

When Lomov comes in to propose to Natalia, they argue about the small piece of land between their properties and Lomov ends up with palpitations. Then he is brought back by Natalia's father and they end up arguing about the superiority of their respective hunting dogs.

Lomov collapses as a result of this conversation. When he regains his consciousness, they kiss and make up, but again start arguing about their dogs. Thus the play hilariously makes fun of marriage through the incompatibility of the two people who are desperately attracted to each other and intend to marry.

He tries to present that there is no emotional bonding in relationship and people simply connect with wealth and money.
