Street lights were yellow due to the use of Sodium vapor lamps which produce light in the narrow spectral range of 589.0 and 589.6 nm (yellow) and next level peaks in the orange region (590 to 620nm). The street lights based on Mercury vapor or Metal Halide (MH) lamps have a bluish white light due to large portion of Violet, Ultraviolet and green color in the emitted spectrum. The most recent development of LED street lights give the white light from Warm white to Cool white measured by the color temperature.
