The areas of UP, Haryana and Punjab are famous for wheat cultivation. The number of  yields  per hectare increased manifold due to the  high yielding varieties. (HYV)These seed variety are resistant to wind damage. These plants have leaves whose surface area are large thus helping in increasing photo syntheses.
These varieties are mature in a short period of time and respond better to chemical fertilisers. thus, these features enable in achieving higher production of food grains.
HYV.  This is was significant development in Indian agriculture .It is was otherwise known as the green revolution, 1960.
