The above incident is from the story The Last Stone Mason.The young man is the son of an old Muslim stone mason who inspite of being a Muslim is engaged in carving statues of Hindu God and Goddesses.
One day the young man threw his hammer and the chisel to the ground out of frustration. He was not happy and satisfied with his work and wanted to leave his father. He believed that carving sculptures only for temples was no more paying which was evident from the condition of their house they were living in.
He wanted to take up something which requires mass production like paper weights, candle stands, plates and ashtrays which were favorite amongst tourists.
