When in the sun the hot red acres smoulder,
Down where the sweating gang ts labour plies
Agin fings down her hoe and from her shoulder
Unslings her child tommented by the files.
She takes him to a ring of shadow pooled
By tham-trees purpled with the blood of scks.
Whie her sharo rals in slow caresses ruled.
Prow through his hair with sharp elecinc clicks.
His sleepy mouth plugged by the heavy nipple.
Tugs like a puppy grunong as he feeds
Through his frai nenes her own deep languors ripole
Like a oroad ner signing through its reeds
Yet in that drowsy stream his fesh mbides
An old unguenched unsmonerable heat-
The cubes ferocity of beaten troes.
The suilen cignity of their defeat
Her body looms above him like a hill
Within whose shade a viage es at est
One is cloud so terrible and so
That bears me coming harvest in its preast.
