The total fare would have been Rs300 more if the first family had 1 member less while the second had 1 member more . What was the fare fir a couple for the same journey in 2 tier coach

Let x & y be the fare for 1 person travelling in 3-tier coach and 2-tier coach respectively.

Initially,

4x + 3y = 5100 ...(1)

Later,

(4-1)x + (3+1)y = 5100 + 300

3x + 4y = 5400 ...(2)

Solving (1) & (2),

x = 600 Rs

y = 900 Rs

For a couple in 2-tier coach, fare will be 2×900 = 1800 Rs.
