Let one number be = x

Let the other number be = y

A.T.Q.

x + y = 39 ------ (1)

x - y = 15 ------- (2)

From (1)

x = 39 - y -------- (3)

Putting (3) in (2)

x - y = 15

( 39 - y ) - y = 15

39 - 2y = 15

39 - 15 = 2y

24 = 2y

y = \frac{24}{2}

y = 12 ------ (4)

Putting (4) in (1)

x + y = 39

x + 14 = 39

x = 39 - 14

x = 25

∴ One number is 25 and the other number is 14 .

Answer:

The two numbers are 27 and 12

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the numbers be x and y

therefore,

x+y = 39 __________ Eqn 1

x-y = 15 __________ Eqn 2

Adding Eqn 1 and Eqn 2

(x+y)+(x-y) = 39+15

x+y+x-y = 54

x+x+y-y = 54

2x+0 = 54

2x = 54

x = 54/2

x = 27

Now,

since, x-y=15

then, 27-y = 15 (since x=27)

        y = 27 - 15

y = 12
