The little match girl is based on the theme of poverty, class differences and hope. The story portrays a crude view in the society of the Victorian era .
There was an under class which was left unemployed and resented by the upper and middle class. It is because of her poor condition that she is sent to sell matches in the bitter cold.
This girl had hope and therefore strikes the matches to keep herself warm. She had faith in God that he would help her. When she lighted a match she saw her dead grandmother and pleaded her to take her( the little girl) with her. This girl imagines her grandma's race inky because she had hope and faith. ..
