The qualities that we can imbibe from the story are that of endurance, perseverance and the importance of keeping one's composure even in the face of extreme danger. The resilience and courage of the small children who did not bother their parents exhibits a level of maturity that we should all learn from irrespective of the age of the person. Maturity and bravery can also be present in a child as we see in the story where the kids keep quiet about their injuries. This was because they thought that their parents had far greater things to pay attention to. Then the narrator's single-minded determination with which he steers them to safety is a remarkable lesson in perseverance. He did not deter from his task and ultimately brought his family to safety. It also shows commitment to a cause and devoted execution of one's duties. The difference in behaviour between the adults and the children in the story was that while the adults were scared and trying hard not to be paranoid, the children were behaving like how adults are supposed to behave, with calmness and composure. That is the behaviour to be followed under adverse circumstances because panicking would not lead to any solution and hamper their chances of survival. The children stayed calm and without stressing upon the injuries they had suffered thus giving their elders the strength of mind to carry on with the rescue efforts. The adults were drawing courage to continue from the children's behaviour
