'Keeping it From
Harold' is an interesting story that depicts how many sacrifices parents can
make for the welfare of their children. Mr. and Mrs. Bramble are blessed with a
son, Harold who is exceptionally brilliant child. As he grew up, his brilliance
became a cause of worry for them. They did not want their son to be affected in
any manner by Mr. Bramble's profession of boxing. After consideration and
discussing with the Curate and uncle Percy, they decided to hide the truth
about his father's profession. Mrs. and Mr. Bramble
worked so hard in keeping the secret about Mr. Bramble’s profession of boxing
hidden from him. They lied to him that his father was a commercial traveler.
They did so because they feared the truth would interfere with Harold’s healthy
growth and development.
However, at the end, when Harold came to know his father was none other than ‘Young Porky’, he liked the revelation. He felt proud of his father. He rather became angry at his parents for hiding his father’s profession from him, as at school if other students(including bullies) knew everyone would be scared of him and no one dared to meddle with him.
