Explanation: - The author says that he was very much pleased when the head teacher of Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute, permitted him to join the school. He considered himself to be the happiest person in the world. He swept the recitation room and dusted every article of the furniture and the homework around the walls of the room very carefully. No particle of dirt could be seen there. It was the real admission test given to the author. Had he failed in that test, the head teacher would not have allowed him admission to that institute.
The author expresses his feelings that he had passed several examinations during his student life bit none of them had been so important as the one of sweeping and dusting of the recitation room. The author becomes emotional and recalls it as the best ever examination he had passed in his life.
