Here it is

The poet considers the tree as a living organism.according to the poet it has the right to live like any other creatures.but the man is killing it with utmost cruelty and callousness .this poem indirectly gives out a strong idea that trees are our lifeline .so they mustn't be killed. But actually he means it's opposite. It implies that a person shall be a murderer if he kills it this way.he says that a knife will not do harm to a tree.at last the poet conveys that if the tree is killed it must be uprooted completely. On stating this the poet taunts the people cutting the trees .the message in the end is that trees are something pious and like human beings.

I hope it is sufficient!

Answer: in this poem the poet uses reverse psychology to ridicule man's mindless act of felling trees for self sustenance. using a verb sacastic tone , he encourage man to kill the trees completely so that it has no scope of growing back . but in fact Gieve patel actually condemns ruthlessness of treating the gift of nature so callously the trees is alive and goes through all phases of life like any living organism . feeling a tree in an inhumane act akin to murder . the tree has a strong will to live and grasps even the tiniest chance to survive but eventually surrenders before man's murderous inclination . man does not rest till he has successfully killed the trees .the pain felt by the trees ,as imagined by Patel dominates the mood of the poem .The poet is here highlighting the problem of rampant deforestation which is major threat to the ecosystem.
