the mean of 15 numbers is 5

therefore their sum=15*5=75

if 2 is added to each number then 2 is added to the all the 15 numbers

therefore 2*15 or 30 more will be added to the sum or 75

=75+30=105

therefore new mean = 105/15=7 [mean=sum of observations/no. of observations]

Arithmetic Mean = Sum of 15 number / 15

⇒ 5 = Sum of 15 number /15

⇒ 5 × 15 = Sum of 15 number

⇒ sum of fifteen number = 75

since two is added to each number means total 2 × 15 = 30 is added to total sum

so new sum of fifteen number = 75 + 30 = 105

New arithmetic mean = 105/15 = 17

New mean will be 17.
