if we take the first case

7^x+y=49  

7^x-y=7*7 bases are same powers can be equated

x-y=7

x=7+y   i)

taking the second case

7^x+y=343

7x+y=7*7*7          bases are same power can be equated

7x+y=49        substitute i) with value of x

7+y+y=49

2y=49÷7

y=7÷2

y=3.5

x=7+7/2

x=10.5
