Theories of Evolution-
Evidence available from various biological fields established that there have been Evolution of living organisms on earth . However, different opinions have been given by various biologist on the mechanism of Evolution.
- Lamarck's theory of inheritance of acquired characters (lamarckism) - Lamarck (1744-1829) a French biologist put forward this theory. He wrote a famous book 'Philosophie Zoologique' and explained the theory of inheritance of acquired characters or lamarckism in 1809 . According to this theory organism adapt themselves to their surrounding. These changes or variation produced in the organism are called adaptive or acquired characters.
- Darwin's theory of natural selection- Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882) in the famous book "The origin of species "explained the mechanism of the evolution .His theory is popularly known as the 'theory of natural selection or Darwinism. In this theory variation occur in organism due to struggle or competition among them .Darwin this theory called selection by nature as natural selection.
- Synthetic theory of evolution-Neither Lamarckism nor Darwinism could explain fully process of evolution. Another famous Dutch Botanist Hugo de vries (1901 )gave mutation theory to explain the mechanism of evolution. He also could not explain it properly. But the most acceptable theory of evolution is Synthetic theory of evolution (formed by taking ideas from all these theories).
