There are 5 people in a room, and you go there inside the room, which means that there are now 6 people inside that room.

Now, you kill 4 of them, that don’t make any difference. Still they are people, they may be dead people.

The question is how many people are there in the room after the killing took place. It doesn’t ask for those who are alive. The answer therefore, is 6 people.

This question can have two different answers based on assumptions:

Given:

5 people in a room.

You go in.

You kill 4 people.

Solution:

  • Assumption 1: If there were 5 in the room and you go in. It will become a total of six people now. After killing, if the dead are also assumed to be people, then there are 6 people in the room.
  • Assumption 2:  If there were 5 in the room and you go in. It will become a total of six people now. If you kill 4 people and the dead people do not account, then, there are 2 people in the room. You and the other living person.
