the closest perfect root to 1000 is 961 which is 31.

then there will be 31 rows and columns and 39 students will be left out.

For a PT drill, the condition given is that the number of rows should be equal to number of columns. For this we need to take the square root of 1000 , then only the given condition will be satisfied.

As we can find out that square of 1000,

It comes in decimal form but as the entity is student so, it should be the natural number. So, the nearest natural number will be the row number. Hence number of students can be filled in these rows and columns are $31\times31=961$.

So, we can check that number of students left out will be$= 1000-961=39$.
