The answer is four.

There are a total of four ants.

Explanation:

Let us assume the ants are in a straight line with Ant  1 in the first position and Ant 4 in the last position as follows:

       1 2 3 4

Now,

*Ants 1 and 2 are in front of ants 3 and 4. (First condition is satisfied.)

*Ants 3 and 4 are behind ants 1 and 2. (Second condition is satisfied.)

*Ants 1 and 4 are next to ants 2 and 3. (Third condition is satisfied.)

Solution :-

There are 4 ants in total and all the ants in a straight line i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.

Condition 1 - (2 ants are in front of 2 other ants)

As all the ants in a straight line, so 1st ant and 2nd ant are in front of 3rd and 4th ants. This is condition 1 fulfilled.

Condition 2 - (2 ants are behind 2 ants)

3rd and 4th ants are behind the 1st and 2nd ants. This is condition 2 fulfilled.

Condition 3 - (2 ants are next to 2 ants)

1st and 2nd ants are next to the 3rd and 4th ants and also we can say that 3rd and 4th ants are next to 1st and 2nd ants. This is condition 3 fulfilled.

So, there are total 4 ants and all in a straight line.
