Step-by-step explanation:

let the time taken for one question be x

then math question takes 2x

remaining questions otherthan math questions are 150

thentime taken for the remaining questions is 150x

time taken to solve math questions =50*2x=100x

100x+150x=10800s(3hr)

250x=10800s

x=250/10800=43.2

then time taken for math problems =43.2*50=2160s*2=4320s(72m)

Concept:

We will calculate the individual subject wise question and then multiply it with respective time taken to complete it.

Given:

There are 200 questions on a 3 hr examination.  Among these questions are 50 mathematics problems.it is suggested that twice as much time be spent on each math's problem as for each other question

To Find:

Time spent on math's questions.

Solution:

No of maths question = 50

No of other questions = 150

Let the time spent on other question = x

∴Time spent on maths question = 2x

∴ time taken for the other questions = 150x

∴  time taken for math questions =50 × 2x=100x

As total time of exam is 3 hrs i.e. 180 minutes

100x+150x=180 min(3hr)

x = 0.72 min

Thus time taken for other  questions

t = 250 x 0.72 = 108 min

Thus time taken for math problems =180 -108 = 72mins

Thus, 72 mins is to be spent on mathematics problem.
