Total Number of students in class =24 +16=40

i) ratio of boys to girls
=Number of boys/Number of girls
=24/16
=3/2

ii) ratio of girls to boys
= Number of girls/Number of boys
=16/24=2/3

iii) Number of boys to the total students
=no. of boys /no. of total students
=24/40
=3/5

Given:

There are 24 boys and 16 girls in a class.

To find:

The answers to the above questions.

Solution:

As given,

The number of boys = 24

The number of girls = 16

So, the total number of students in a class = 40

Now, the answers to the above questions are solved below:

(i)

 \frac{number \: of \: boys}{number \: of \: girls}  =  \frac{24}{16}

 =  \frac{3}{2}

Hence, the ratio of boys to girls is 3:2.

(ii)

The ratio of girls to boys is the reverse of the ratio of boys to girls.

Or

 \frac{number \: of \: girls}{number \: of \: boys}  =  \frac{16}{24}

 =  \frac{2}{3}

Hence, the ratio of girls to boys is 2:3.

(iii)

 \frac{number \: of \: boys}{total \: number \: of \: students}  =  \frac{24}{40}

 =  \frac{3}{5}

Hence, the ratio of boys to the total students of the class is 3:5.
