Given :  There are 25 trees at equal distances of 5 m in a line ,starting from the water tank and returning back

To find :  total distance covered by the gardener order to water all the trees

Solution:

going for 1st tree   Distance covered  =  n + n = 2n  m

going for 2nd tree   Distance covered  =  n + 5 + 5 + n = 2n + 10 m

going for 3rd tree   Distance covered  =  2n + 20 m

going for 24th tree  Distance covered = 2n +  10(23) m

going for 25th tree   distance covered =  n  + 5(24)   ( as not required to return)

Total Distance covered

= 2n + (2n + 10) + (2n + 20) + .......................................+ (2n + 230)  + (n + 120)

= 2n(24) + 10(0 + 1 + 2 + .............................+ 23) + n + 120

= 48n  + 10 (23)(24)/2  + n + 120

= 49n + 2760 + 120

= 49n + 2880 m

total distance covered by the gardener to water all the trees = 49n + 2880 m
