Step-by-step explanation:

Total no of students= 256

Acc to question,

Ratio between girls and boys is 9:7

Let no of girls = 9 × y = 9y

Let no of boys= 7 × y = 7y

Also,

No of girls + no of boys = Total students

=> 9y+ 7y = 256

=> 16y = 256

=> y = 256 ÷ 16

=> y= 16

So, No of boys = 7 × y = 7 × 16 = 112

Answer:

9x+7x=256

16x=256

x=256/16

x=16

9x=9(16)=144 #girls

7x=7(16)=112 #boys
