There are 3 different substances were taken for observations the substances were labelled as 1, 2
and 3 the first substance was experimented and found that is cannot be separated by any chemical proces
and it was only of one type of atom, when the 2nd substances was observed then it was found that it was a
pure substance in which two things were combined chemically in a fixed proportion and finally the 3rd
substance can be separated by physical process.
Answer the following questions now.
(1) Name the 3 substances ?
(2) Write the properties of 3rd substance.
(3) Write the properties of 2nd substance.
(4) Write examples of each substance ?
(5) What are types of 3rd substance ?

Answer:

1) The three substances are:

  • 1st ----› element
  • 2nd ---› compound
  • 3rd ---› mixture

2) Properties of the 3rd substance

  • It can be homogeneous or heterogeneous.
  • It can be separated by physical means.
  • It cannot have a chemical formula.

3) Properties of the 2nd substance

  • It is always homogeneous.
  • It can only be separated by chemical means.
  • It can have a chemical name and a chemical formula.

4) Examples of:

  • 1st substance

Carbon, Iron, calcium, and all elements from the peeiodic table.

  • 2nd substance

Carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), quick lime (calcium oxide- CaO), and all other molecular formulas.

  • 3rd substance

Milk, tap water, air, plastic, petrol, etc...

5) Types of 3rd substance (mixtures):

  • Homogeneous-

Mixtures whose contents are distributed uniformly throughout the mixture are called homogeneous mixtures.

Examples- All examples given in answer 4 for 3rd substance.

  • Heterogeneous-

Mixtures whose contents are not distributed uniformly throughout the mixture are called homogeneous mixtures.

Examples- Mud, soil, sand, mixture of sugar and salt, rice bought from market, etc...
