Total average weight = 42kg.
Total average weight of girls = x
Total average weight of boys = 8.8kg + x.
Therefore,
The average weight of the class = Average weight girls + Average weight of boys.
42kg = x + 8.8kg + x
42kg = 2x + 8.8kg
42kg - 8.8kg = 2x
33.2kg = 2x
x = 33.2 /2
x = 16.6.
Hence, the average weight of girls in the class is 16.6kg.
The average weight of boys in the class is 16.6 + 8.8 = 25.4kg.
