Let the no. of magazines be x

We are given that there are three times as many books as magazines

So, No. of books = 3x

We are given that there are 320 books and magazine altogether in a book shop

So, x+3x=320x+3x=320

4x=3204x=320

x=\frac{320}{4}=80x= 4(320)

=80

No. of books = 3x=3(80)=240

Hence There are 240 books and 80 magazines
