Total number of students =40

Number of boys =15\\

Number of girls =25

Probability of selecting a girl studying opt. maths by using Baye's Theorem of conditional probability (it is based on the occurrence of another event)=

\frac{\frac{25}{40}\times \frac{15}{25} }{(\frac{25}{40} \times\frac{15}{25}) +(\frac{15}{40} \frac{15}{15} )} \\\\=\frac{\frac{15}{40} }{2\times\frac{15}{40} }\\ \\=\frac{1}{2}

Hence the required probability is 1/2.
