Total number of students in school play= 40

Now,

Let the number of boys be x

So, Accordingly

Number of girls = 3x

So,

As per question :-

3x + x = 40

Or,

4x = 40

Or,

x = 40/4 = 10

Now,

Number of boys in the play = x = 10 boys

Number of girls in the play = 3x = 30 girls.
