Answer:- The equation formed in this situation is => x+x+278 = 400

Given in the question:-

Given the total number of students in a school = 400

The number of girls is given = x

And number of boys are = x+278

It is asked to form equation for the given situation. So, the equation formed according to question is

x+x+278 = 400

To find the number of girls and boys, let us solve the equation formed for the given situation

x+x+278 = 400

 2x+287 = 400

      2x    = 400-278

          x  = 122/2

          x  = 61

Therefore, the number of girls in the school = x

                                                                         = 61

And the number of boys in the school = x+278

                                                                = 61+278

                                                                = 339
