There are 42 pupils in a class out of which 3/4 of the boys and 2/3of the girls travel to school by bus.

Also given that, total number of boys and girls who travel to school by bus is 30.

We have to find the number of boys in the class and girls who travel to school by bus.

Let us assume that there is a G number of girls and B numbers of boys.

According to question,

→ 3B/4 + 2G/3 = 30

→ (9B + 8G)/12 = 30

→ 9B + 8G = 30(12)

→ 9B + 8G = 360 .............(1)

Also,

→ B + G = 42

→ B = 42 - G

Substitute value of B in eq (1)

→ 9(42 - G) + 8G = 360

→ 378 - 9G + 8G = 360

→ -G = 360 - 378

→ - G = - 18

→ G = 18

Substitute value of G in B

→ B = 42 - 18

→ B = 24

Therefore,

a) Number of Boys in the class = B = 24

b) Number of Girls who travel to school by bus = G = 18 × 2/3 = 12
