There are 49 dogs signed up for a dog show. There are 36 more small dogs than the large dogs. How many small dogs have signed up to compete?

So, let the number of large dogs be x.

No of small dogs = x + 39.

So,

x + x + 39 = 49

2x = 49 - 39

2x = 10

x = 5.

Number of small dogs is 39+5 => 44.
