Answer:

Family E lives on the fourth floor.

Step-by-step explanation:

This is told that Family A lives on the topmost floor. Then, Family C lives immediately above the floor on which B lives. B lives in an odd numbered floor. So, B may live on the third or the first floor. Then it's said that D lives on the third floor. So, B lives on the first floor. If B lives on the third floor, then C lives on the second floor which is immediately above the floor on which B lives.

Hence,

A has occupied the fifth floor.

B has occupied the first floor.

C has occupied the second floor.

D has occupied the third floor.

We see that the fourth floor is empty.

Hence, we can conclude that Family E lives on the fourth floor.

Family E lives on the fourth floor.

  • If family A lives on the topmost floor of a building with 5 floors, it means they live on the fifth floor.
  • Family B lives on an odd numered floor. There are 2 odd numbered floors in the building excluding the fifth floor.
  • But family D lives on third floor, so odd numbered floor that family B lives on, is the first floor.
  • Since family C lives immediately above the floor on which В lives, they live on the second floor.
  • That leaves only the fourth floor for the family E.
