Given

\bold{Total \ no: \ of \ red \ roses} = 5

\bold{Total \ no: \ of \ yellow \ roses} = 2

\bold{Total \ no: \ of \ white \ roses} = 3

\bold{Total \ no: \ of \ roses} = 5+2+3=10

SOMETHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

\boxed{\bold{Probability \ of \ an \ outcome = \dfrac{Given \ outcome}{Total \ no: \ of \ outcomes}}}}}}}}

1) Probability of a yellow rose

\bold {Probability \ of \ a \ yellow \ rose = \dfrac{Total \ no: \ of \ yellow \ roses}{Total \ no: \ of \ roses}}

\implies \dfrac{2}{10}

\implies \boxed{\boxed{\bold{\frac{1}{5}}}}}}}}}}

2) Probability of not getting a yellow rose

\bold {Probability \ of \ not \ getting \ a \ yellow \ rose =1-\dfrac{Total \ no: \ of \ yellow \ roses}{Total \ no: \ of \ roses}}

\implies 1 - \dfrac{1}{5}

\implies  \dfrac{5-1}{5}

\implies \boxed{\boxed{\bold{\frac{4}{5}}}}}}}}}}

Total number of roses in the flower pot = 5+3+2

= 10

∴ Number of possible outcomes to select a rose at random is 10.

(i) Let 'A' be the event that the selected rose is of yellow colour.

No. of yellow roses in the flower pot = 2

∴P(A) = \frac{2}{10} = 0.2

(ii) Let A be the event when the selected rose is yellow in colour.

Then, C is the event when the selected rose is not of yellow colour.

No. of yellow roses in the flower pot = 2

∴ P(A) = \frac{2}{10} = 0.2

Now, P(C) = 1 P(A) = 1 0.2 = 0.8
