In bag 1

P(r) = 5/8

P(g) = 3/8

In bag 2

P(r) = 2/8 = 1/4

P(g) = 6/8 = 3/4

The probability of the pen picked up from Bag 1 to be red is 5/16, to be green is 3/16 while the respective probabilities from Bag 2 are 2/16 and 6/16.

  • Since ball is picked at random from one of the bag so the probability of each bag is 1/2
  • Hence the probability of the pen picked up = probability of pen if there was only one bag multiplied by the probability of each bag

The probabilities of pens in the respective bags are as follows:-

Bag 1

  • P(r)=5/8
  • P(g)=3/8

Bag 2

  • P(r)=2/8
  • P(r)=6/8
